Dessert First! by Madame Cocoa - Saturday 2pm-6pm

Location:  Austin, TX, United States
Starting From: US $49.00

Let's face it - life is too short to skip dessert.    Join Austin's chocolate expert Madame Cocoa on a walk through Central Austin's best places to catch your sugar high. Ever contemplated the differences between ice cream and gelato? Are beignets your morning indulgence or late-night snack? Would you eat Nutella on just about anything? When you select a Mexican food dish, does the chocolate in mole sway your choice? Can you really fry milk for dessert? We go WAY beyond cupcakes in this tempting tour, visiting one of the oldest candy-makers in Texas as well as food truck newcomers. Savory bites along the way help offset your sugar rush. The tour finale is one you will not soon forget, with desserts from one of the most acclaimed restaurants in the country.

Dessert First! is an afternoon walking tour spanning 4-6 city blocks. Your tour of the Rosedale area begins and ends in the shopping center at 4200 North Lamar Blvd. where Taco Deli, Houndstooth Coffee, and Uchiko are located. During the tour we visit 4-6 locations with a generous sampling of:

  • Sweet Texas history - pecan pralines, a "divine" nougat, and chocolate-caramel candies from a 5th generation Texas confectioner.

  • La Bella Vita in Austin - authentic handmade gelato and sorbetto tasting while we learn the secrets of an Italian master gelato maker.

  • Laissez les bon temps roulez - New Orleans style beignets with a food trailer twist.

  • Holy Mole - a savory break exploring mother of all Mexican sauces, Mole Poblano. Taste local, award-winning, traditional mole tacos - dark, rich, complex, with just a spike of chocolate.

  • From Mexico to Japan in half a block - Japanese farmhouse dining through acclaimed dessert creations.

  • Fine Chocolate Tasting - guided dark chocolate bar tasting of American small-batch chocolate, with tips on tasting, pairing, and buying fine chocolate and confections.
